Gooloo Jump Starter Review

Welcome to Car Battery Nerd, where today, hot off the presses is a Gooloo Jump Starter Review.

This is a brand we’ve been hearing more and more about in the last couple of years, launching themselves as competitors in a busy market with the behemoth NOCO and the recent rising star of Topdon (making some of the best 12V battery testers, chargers and more).

Gooloo fancy their battery boosters as offering the same excellence of jump starting as these more established makers, at a much lower cost (Avapow do similar – check out this Avapow 6000A jump starter review).

Let’s see how those claims stack up (particularly in terms of performance and value compared to the other jump boxes on the US market) and find out just how well the Gooloo GP4000 works (for this is the model we’re focusing on). Check out price on Amazon right here.

Now, let’s get to grips with the testing! Firstly, see the basic specs below.

Gooloo GP4000 Review

The full lowdown on the good aspects of this product:

Succesfully performed the vast majority of jump starts
No jump starter works every single time. We’ll repeat that: precisly no jump starter works every single time. Sometimes; not that often, but sometimes a battery is beyond even the most powerful of boosters. And that’s as true of this Gooloo battery booster as it is of any other. But, in our analysis, this unit did a great job of jumping cars in the vast majority of cases.

Near NOCO standard jump start ability at a fraction of the cost
While we still rate NOCO as the best jump starter on the market, when you take into account value, there’s an argument to be made for the Gooloo GP4000. We’ve found it to be almost as good as NOCO for jump starting batteries that are sulfated, getting old and otherwise not in the best condition. That, by the way, is the true test of a jump starter – you want to know it’ll be there for you in a pinch, when you need it most, and conditions aren’t perfect. The equivalent NOCO model (the GBX155) is around three times the price.

It’s almost ridiculously light, and easy to take everywhere you go
We had a second of disbelief that we had the wrong version. It really doesn’t feel like this small and light little unit should be able to deliver enough amps to start a car with a failing battery. And yet, as discuss above, it performs really well. We’re probably affected by this moment of disbelief more than many because we still vividly remember heaving an old lead-acid battery jump starter around, getting a pretty good workout taking it from vehicle to vehicle. The fact that this little unit packs such power is something that takes getting used to and seeing in action before you can believe it.

Cons and possible reasons why this model may not be what you need:

Material and component quality is a notch below NOCO
It doesn’t feel like a NOCO jump starter does. It feels good – a solid, well-made piece of kit. It certainly wouldn’t be as successful at jump starts if it wasn’t. But there’s an assuredness, a rugged quality to a NOCO jump box that this unit can’t quite match.

No IP65 waterproof and dustproof protection
If you get this jump box, you’re going to want to keep it in the dry. There had to be something. It just didn’t seem possible for such a good performance in jump starts to be so inexpensive compared to other top-range boosters. So, you do sacrifice on this particular issue.

Where can you get it?

That was the GP4000 review, now let’s check out the other Gooloo jump starter reviews.

GP3000 Review

Pros and features in common with the GP4000:

Pros arrow as with the GP4000, high rate of successful starts on weak batteries

Pros arrow quite a large cost saving on this model – lower cost than the GP4000 by around 30%

Cons and features different to the GP4000:

Cons arrow 3000A Peak Amps (compared to 4000A for GP4000); starting a 9.0L gas, 7.0L diesel compared to All gas cars, and up to 10.0L diesel.

Cons arrow lasts a shorter time on standby (and capable of fewer jump starts) before it needs to be recharged due to a smaller capacity of 16,000mAh (compared to 24,000mAh of the GP4000)

GP2000 Review

Pros and features in common with the GP4000:

Pros arrow impressive rate of successful starts on weak batteries for relatively small engined vehicles; especially given the very low price. We’ve seen much less successful jumper boxes at a higher price.

Pros arrow a really low price for a genuine 2000A jump starter, from a reputable and well-established maker in Gooloo

Cons and features different to the GP4000:

Cons arrow 2000A Peak Amps (compared to 3000A for the GP3000, and 4000A for the GP4000); billed as suitable for jumping an 8.0L gas car and a 6.0L diesel car.

Cons arrow 12,000mAh means it’s half the capacity of the GP4000, so it won’t last as long in your glovebox.

Cons arrow no USB-A ports to charge your devices and no 15V DC port (unlike the two larger models above)

GT4000 & GT4000S Review

These models are the same specs and materials; the difference is that the GT4000 has the self-heating mode

the GT4000, above

the GT4000S, above

Pros and features in common with the GP4000:

Pros arrow The GT4000 is by some distance the best choice for those in very cold climates; the self-heating functions means you can. Many people know cold temperatures affect the battery, and make a big difference to your chances of a successful jump start but most people don’t get quite how much of a difference. Let us tell you, cold weather hugely affects both the Amps actually delivered to your battery AND how many Amps are needed for the jump to be successful. This self-heating function really works, and is a must for anyone who may encounter seriously cold temperatures.

Pros arrow despite being the most expensive of Gooloo’s units, it’s still really good value when you consider what this model contains; and how expensive other 4000A jump packs are.

Pros arrow the LCD screen is really handy; with other models, it’s simply impossible to have anything other than a best guess how much charge remains. So you could either be charging unnecessarily, or you could assume it has more charge than it actually does and get caught sort with an undercharged unit.

Pros arrow charges much faster than the GP4000, with PD100W, you’ll get a full charge in 45 mins (By the way, Gooloo advertise you’ll get enough charge to jump in only 3 minutes – but we advise not to rely on that, such a low charge would only jump a car battery that is just slightly low in voltage.)

Pros arrow the GT4000 and GT4000s do have IP65 protection; so they’re waterproof and dustproof. That’s another key advantage over the GP4000.

Cons and features different to the GP4000:

The most expensive of Gooloo’s portable jump starters, around 30% more expensive than the GP4000. Why? It’s the largest, with a huge 4000A Peak Amps, and, unlike the GP4000, it has the self-heating function and the LCD screen.

GT3000 Review

In a toss-up between the GT3000 and the GP4000 (which are almost the same price), you’re basically deciding if you prefer the higher Peak Amps of the GT4000 or the LCD charge status screen and fast-charging of the GT3000.

Pros and features in common with the GP4000:

Pros arrow Around the same price as the GP4000

Pros arrow PD100W Max charge means it’ll charge as fast as the GT4000, to 100% in 45 minutes.

Pros arrow the LCD screen lets you see the charge status, making it easy to check once in a while to see if it still has enough charge.

Pros arrow the GT3000 also has IP65 protections, making it both dustproof and waterproof to a very high level.

Cons and features different to the GP4000:

3000A peak Amps vs. 4000A for the GP4000.

Car Battery Nerd Expert Tip

A note to help you to choose the right size of jump pack.

Sometimes people see the size of engine that the jumper is rated for, and think: “okay, my car’s engine size is easily within that range. I’ll get that one”.

It’s not quite so simple. There’s a reason you’ll see a ton of online reviews for poorer quality jump packs (and we’ve used a few in our time) with people saying my car’s only 2.5L and this is supposed to work for car engines up to 6L.

The engine size maximum is chosen by the maker; they’ll tend to do based on a general principle of how much peak amperage is required to start an engine of given size. So, for example, if their product’s maximum peak amps is 3000A; they’ll check the market (and their own testing experience) and see that 3000A can be enough to start, let’s say, an 8.0L gas, and 6.0L diesel car.

And, indeed, 3000A can be enough to start cars with those engine size. But perhaps only in a very favourable situation where the weather is not too cold, and the battery just has a voltage slightly below the amount required to start the vehicle.

It really depends on the unique situation and condition of the battery and vehicle involved.

So how to actually choose then?

It depends on your attitude to risk, and of course the size of your car.

If you feel it’s really important for you to have the maximum chance of a successful start even in adverse battery/weather conditions, then go as big as you can for Peak Amps, no matter what your car’s engine size is. That’s the only way to really minimize the risk of a failed jump start.

If you have a large to very large engine size, say 6L and above and you want something that maximises the chance of a successful start, even with an ageing battery and cold weather, consider the GP4000 or similar sized jump box.

If you have a small to medium sized engine, say 2 to 5L, the GP3000 provides a hefty jump, good enough for most cases, but anything is possible in cold weather or with a weak or ageing battery (and therefore low voltage).

If you have a vehicle with a small engine, of less than 2L, then choose the GP2000 or GP3000 (or similarly sized jump starter of another brand of your preference), depending on your level of risk aversion.

Finally, if you have a diesel engine – they’re harder to start, so it’s a good idea to go as big an amperage as you can find (from a good quality maker, like NOCO or Gooloo) within your price range.

Update February 2026

Is the 4000A behemoth not enough for you?

Well, Gooloo have released a massive new 6000A model.

It has the same good quality as the models we’ve reviewed on this page, but that massive maximum of 6000A means it’s deal with any size of gas engine, with power to spare. As well as up to 12.0L diesel.

Check out the Gooloo 6000A price and full specs.

Gooloo Jump Starter Review Summary

That, then, was our Gooloo Jump Starter Review.

We focused on the GP4000, but much of the pros and cons carry across each Gooloo jump starter; that’s why we structured the review in this way. The best way to get all the information you need is to read the GP4000 review, and then check out the individualised pros and cons for each specific model, to see which model fits your needs.

In by far the most important category: the ability to jump start weakened batteries (by the way, here’s the best way to recondition your battery, with a battery desulfator), the Gooloo performed really well. We checked out its performance on a variety of batteries in a variety of conditions; and it did well in much more of them than expected, given the relatively low price for a 4000A battery jump starter.

Check out the price of the Gooloo GP4000 here. Or select the other model you’d like to see from the list below.

And, finally, the new GT6000.

Hope you enjoyed reading, all the best for your jump starter purchase decision.
